Divine Skin (DSKX) Introduces First Topical Hair-Growth Treatment with Astressin-B Peptide

Posted on September 20, 2011 by Dana Salvo

DSKXSept. 20th, 2011 - Divine Skin Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:DSKX) has announced the release of the first topical hair-growth treatment based on astressin-B, a peptide newly discovered to regrow hair on bald mice. Divine Skin becomes the first biotech developer to synthesize and commercialize the peptide for human use in a cosmetic product, to be marketed as Spectral.F7 under the DS Laboratories brand.

“Astressin-B is a very complex peptide that is difficult to synthesize,” said Divine Skin CEO Daniel Khesin. “So we are especially excited that the resulting product will be reasonably priced as well as cutting-edge, considering the extraordinary development schedule and cost.”

Astressin-B sparked extensive media coverage worldwide and excitement around the biotech industry after a clinical study, conducted by the University of California Los Angeles and the Veterans Administration, was published in February. By applying the peptide (a protein fragment) subcutaneously to mice that had gone bald due to overexpression of stress hormones, scientists showed that astressin-B blocked receptors for corticotropin-releasing factor, involved in the stress response, and led to hair regrowth.

“We think this technology is years ahead of its time,” continued Khesin. “It could provide significant benefits to many of our hair-loss customers. Spectral.F7 is another direct result of our relentless commitment to bring the latest technology to market first and always.”

Spectral.F7, a booster that can be combined with other treatments or used alone, should begin shipping in October. It comes less than two months after Divine Skin introduced Nanoxidil, a new molecule designed to stimulate follicles at the vertex of the scalp and surpass minoxidil for efficacy and tolerability.

Biotech Developer Divine Skin (DSKX) Debuts New Hair-Growth Molecule Nanoxidil

Posted on August 2, 2011 by Dana Salvo

DSKXMIAMI BEACH, Fla., Aug. 2, 2011 — Hair-growth developer Divine Skin Inc. (DSKX) introduced a new molecule, Nanoxidil, designed to stimulate follicles at the vertex of the scalp and surpass minoxidil for efficacy and tolerability. The innovative new compound offers unique advantages for penetration and persistence because its molecular weight is lower than that of minoxidil, a chemical on the market for 30 years now.

“This is a significant step forward in topical therapy, and we are very excited,” said Daniel Khesin, CEO of Divine Skin.

He added that new products could be brought to market quickly since Nanoxidil did not require health-agency approval in most countries. He anticipated that Divine Skin would see significant revenue from Nanoxidil, which resulted from a five-year research-and-development effort.

Spectral.DNC-N, part of the DS Laboratories brand, would be the first treatment to employ Nanoxidil 5%, which could eventually succeed minoxidil as the new standard for topical treatment.

Nanoxidil’s precise mechanism of action is still under study. Researchers expect it to potentiate desirable properties and mitigate side effects, compared to minoxidil. Studies of minoxidil have shown it to open ion channels, induce resting follicles into growth phase, increase follicle size, relax vascular smooth muscle, and stimulate vascular endothelial growth factor. Nanoxidil’s lower molecular weight may boost its absorption properties for greater efficacy.

“We expect Nanoxidil to become a powerful force in the fight against thinning and shedding hair, working faster and better with enhanced tolerability,” predicted Khesin. “It may allow more patients to maintain their hair, and it may work for patients who have not responded to standard minoxidil therapy.”

Robin Powell Becomes President at Biotech Leader Divine Skin (DSKX)

Posted on July 25, 2011 by Dana Salvo

Divine SkinMIAMI BEACH, Fla., July 25, 2011 — Rising star Divine Skin Inc. (DSKX), which has been expanding the hair-growth sector, announced the appointment of Robin Powell, a long-time leader in the cosmetics industry, to become its president.

“I was coaxed out of retirement by Divine Skin because I believe their innovative products are unmatched in the hair-care industry,” said Powell. “They give proven results with a ‘wow’ factor.”

A dozen Divine Skin shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in treatments have multiplied the options available for men and women with hair loss. Unlike mass-market competitors, Divine Skin’s products come both with and without minoxidil and incorporate complex peptides, androgen inhibitors, procyanidin, and other proven compounds, many encapsulated for greater absorption and efficacy.

“At a time when there are so many brands competing for a share of the business, this uniqueness facilitates entry into new markets and builds repeat business,” added Powell, who joined Divine Skin as head of global business development and began growing distribution almost immediately. In May the company announced new agreements with four regional distributors that sell to 27,000 salons and hair-care professionals across 14 US states.

Robin Powell’s long line of successful ventures includes Sebastian and TIGI. He joined Sebastian in its early days and was responsible for building international distribution prior to its sale to Wella, later acquired by Procter & Gamble. Then he joined TIGI and propelled distribution into a hundred countries prior to its sale to Unilever.

“I am delighted to offer my guidance and experience,” said Powell. “With the team we now have in place, I believe Divine Skin has an incredible future and will continue to grow at a remarkable pace.”
